WhatApp microphone issues

I am having issues with my microphone when sending messages on WhatsApp, it works on the notes app.

When recording messages in WhatsApp when I play it back it just sounds like static. This does not occur in other applications

What microphone, inbuilt or some other (earphones etc)? Have you tried restarting the phone
