It is incredible to see how many people think 2G is necessary for voice or sms, that is not true at all. It can run on all bands. The danger of not beeing able to disable 2G is really serious, they discovered last year that for less then 50 dollars you can purchase hardware to do a stingattack (take over your phone, by letting your phone connect to a fake antenna, all your data can be intercepted or blocked or read). It's really dangerous now that everyone can purchase this hardware and that you can't do anything to block your phone connecting to it. Well ... only if you have a samsung phone, all the others are safe, because on the other phones you can block 2G antennas to protect yourself. Enabling 3G only is also not a good idea, because just like 2G, 3G is phasing out in the next 12 months. But your phones can still autoconnect to a fake 2G antenna.
I had a neighbor who installed a 2G cellphone booster and my phone kept connecting to it without my knowledge and then suddenly I noticed that people could not call me anymore, there was a problem with hes cellphone booster, it was accepting connections but was not able to retransmit them anymore, so I was stuck without coverage untill the police came by. Because cellphone boosters are illegal antennas
