Hi all

I would be grateful for some advice please.

I am replacing my old Samsung S8 and I am tempted by the new S24 plus.

I have read online that the processor varies based on where its brought and the best processor in Snapdragon (US, Canada, Taiwan) compared to Exynos 2400 (UK and Europe).

Looking at where to buy obviously from Samsung direct in the UK they confirmed the processor will be Exynos 2400.  However contacting Amazon they conformed the S24 plus they sell has Snapdragon ‘but’ the phone is classified as an import.

I just wondered who I should buy from : I am normally drawn to Amazon as their return policy has always been good to me but wondered what disadvantages (such as warranties/updates/compatibilities)  if any in buying a phone classified as an import.

Would really appreciate any comments or advice on which way to go.

Many thanks for any replies and your time taken to ready this.

Regards

Tiggy

Do not buy an imported device, samsung pay won't work, 5g won't work depending on where it is from, no warranties, repairs will be difficult, software updates might not come through and when you come to upgrading it in the future selling value will be much less and it won't be accepted as a trade in.

Hi, and welcome to the UK community

I'd buy from Samsung direct in the location you are based. It's the only way of knowing you're getting the genuine article manufactured for your region. You will also receive all the benefits Samsung offer, when buying direct.

If you buy an import product, you might not get Samsung UK warranty on the device. I would recommend buying from Samsung UK for two reasons :
1. You will have Samsung UK warranty and you can always add Samsung Care + which is good.
2. They always have various promotions running so you can get it cheaper plus there is generous trade in deals.

Exynos 2400 has been proven to be really good this time, neck to neck with Snapdragon 8 gen 3.

If you are a specs guy and is looking for higher performance, may be you can think S24 ultra which has Snapdragon 8 gen 3 processor but if you use your phone normally with littile bit of gaming, S24 plus will be great as it has QHD screen this time. Rest it's up to you but you might consider checking Samsung store once.

You will be far better off buying from Samsung
Import phones won't be covered by a manufacturer warranty
Samsung pay is very unlikely to work
You will get network issues as well and might not get 5G. Depends on what network provider you are with if it covers all network bands

I wouldn't get hung up on the snapdragon and Exynos thing.
As I understand it, this year's Exynos has been very solid and performs well.
Unless you are pushing the processor all the time. You are unlikely to notice any difference in normal use.
Plus compared to your S8. It will be very fast anyway.

If you do decide to get one from Amazon. Research is key. Make sure the seller is legit and the device will work for you.
Personally I'd definitely recommend not buying from there, but the choice is yours

Unless sold by Samsung, do not buy referbs from random sources.

It has to be ... Sold by Samsung and delivered by Amazon ... Learned that lesson! 😂

All S24 as far as I'm aware are the snap chip.

It's something they decided for simplicity this time.

Personally I'd go for the s23 (TWENTY THREE) it has the best reviews of any Samsung ever.

The last phone I imported was the Samsung Note²⁰ which was from Samsung Hong Kong into the UK.

I used wondamobile which goingfrom the reviews is a good source, and my experience was exemplary.

However the caveat is that you'll have no valid Manufacturer's Warranty,  the benefits section in the Samsung Members App is blank and the keyboard will be a little different too @Members_5Z98sJm

You'll still receive software and security patches as normal but the tineframe maybe a little different as your reliant on tne country of origin pushing out the updates.

Samsung Pay may not work but Google Pay does.

5G may / may not work.

If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask  😎
