S24 Ultra 12MP photos are pretty good but 50MP (especially 5xzoom) and 200MP procesing still needs to be fixed

I really love this phone and I have probably already taken few thousand pictures in normal mode with minimal optimalization. 12MP photos are pretty solid and predictable (you get what you see on camera preview) but high resolution photos can be really frustrating as you can never know with what you are gonna end up. Latest 23 feb updated didn't changed that.

28789dec-ed63-4210-8cc6-e9a033e1fa2f.jpgFirst 200MP photos optimalization can destroy photo by adding weird artifacts around clounds on blue sky. Also they focus point most of the time is really small so most of the photo is usually blured comparing to other modes and they are also so much colorful then the rest but I guess I prefer that over wash out colors from 5x zoom 50mp photo optimalization.

5x zoom 50MP are photos unpredictable, you can never know what final result will be. Photo can look good or can look worse then in 12MP with less detail. Even when setings are on minimum optimalization the diference in light, shadows, color in pictures taken by the same camera with just diferent resoluton is huge. 12MP quite often looks better and more natural, saving more detail in light and shadow area.

5x zoom 50MP photos can have almost black shadows:

People faces sometimes are to bright and flat:

12MP camera can preserve more detail then 50mp photo:

In less light enviroment 5xzoom 50MP optimalization can make very noisy backgroud and change almost whole photo:

Hope soon there will be some updates for how adaptive pixel and high res picture optimalization works.

Also I wish preview screen in photo mode in camera app worked so fast and seamless as preveiw in video mode :smiling-face:

Why use the 10MP sensor for 3x and 5x 12MP photos? Then for 50MP photo for  1x uses the 200MP sensor, but switching to 5x it goes to the 10MP sensor again. Then 200MP photo, 5x, again the 10MP sensor is used and not the 50MP sensor. In my tests just now I never saw the phone using the 50MP sensor at all!

EDIT: It is clear to me that Samsung still cannot manage the phone system at all! Just now switched to 12MP, 5x and it used the 50MP, but moving the phone around made it switch between the 10MP sensor and the 50MP one. Im pi$$ed!
EDIT2: If I was not so invested in Google and android, I would be switching to Apple immediately!

I'm switching from a S21 ultra to Z Fold 4, I know the camera quality isn't as impressive, but the 50 mp should be better so people think.

I took a photo in 50 mp and 12 mp as well, in the same position, on a beautiful 86 degree North Carolina day. The 12 mp camera definitely kept the color quality better. The colors are always washed out more on the 50 mp camera.

Same thing on the s21 ultra as well, the 150 mp isn't the best looking mode.

They completely destroyed this app by doing this. Every photos goes through horrible mangler and totally destroys what I see when I take the photo. What bothers me the most is that we can not turn it off. In android 13 this was an option called enhances scene. But now there are 2 intelligence and enhances scene and both can't be turned off completely unless we use lower 12m photo. Even the camera raw app does this. In the settings it is also stated that using RAW photos; No color esitrong will be done. Yet it still destroys my images. Really unhappy with this behavior on a very expensive phone

Same goes for video, I lock the exposure and manual tweak. Then shoot and when I review, the clouds are completely blown out. This app is so broken 😞

The video, before it plays back shows correct exposure. Then after split second, I see all the clouds being blown out. I tried to make screengrsb of display while I was shoo

ting, Majore difference

It gets even weirder, perhaps it's some display setting. I see the still video actually change in exposure as I switch apps. I've got adaptive brightness ON, but when turned off, it still happens. However, I see the clouds getting blown out and sometimes when pauzing video it comes back. Something is doing weird stuff on this display.

Well it gets even weirder in almost all modes, when you zoom. The photos are NOT 50m or 200m, they are a crop and then are saved as 12m photos. Even though the app states your in 50m or 200m. This happens in Pro Mode and also in the export raw app. Only the native app in normal photo mode will keep the resolution. I noticed this last night on S24 plus, Im not sure about 200m though since I don't have that option.

But if you Google it, you find that zoomed photos in 50m are a crop and saved as a 12m photo
