S24+ Google Maps Totally Inaccurate

Anyone have any advice / experience to share regarding Google Maps being totally inaccurate on Samsung S24+ .....?

Generally, Google Maps will work OK in live use most of the time, although I have had it freeze totally, lose GPS etc etc. When this happens, I am lucky enough to be able to revert to my works phone, an iPhone 15, and never had a problem at all.

What is most noticeable is that after any journey, when I look at Google Maps Timeline, almost every journey is shown as totally straight lines, with these lines going through areas I have been nowhere near. It's basically showing a straight line from point A to point B, reagrdless of real route.

S24+ has all available updates, Google Maps has been reinstalled to latest version.

My old cheapy Samsung A12 was far far better than this S24+ - I can view Google Maps Timeline from 4yrs ago from using the A12 that make this S24+ look like it's using 20yr old technology.

Anyone now if there is a fix for this - or is it just that the S24+ is incapable of accurate GPS ....?

I use Google Maps on my phone pretty regularly and can't say I've experienced similar to you 🤔

It might be checking on any relevant forum that discusses the Google App too, and send feedback via your Samsung Members App too.

Yeah, thanks - I've now asked similar on the Google Maps forum - just trying to work out if it's an OS / App / Hardware issue - then what can be done about it.

I've also tried the GPS Test app that a lot of people have mentioned - this is how it looks :

Not sure if thats good, bad or inconclusive, as I've never needed to use it before .... 🤷‍♂️

I agree, GPS on my S24+ is worse than other phones I've had for the last 5 years or more, and it's really annoying.

Most noticeable for me is when using Google maps for walking (doesn't even know which direction I'm facing whilst walking - it thinks I walk sideways!) directions, or when recording runs on Strava.

The Strava map shows significant deviations from my actual route, and the recorded distance is less than the actual distance.

Previously had a pixel, a Huawei, and something else (can't remember, not iPhone) all of which clocked the expected distances on my regular running routes.

Did you find a resolution? I've had my phone a year and I have just accepted it's poor in this area.
