S24+ blank or black screen when calling

I have had the phone for less than two weeks.  When I make a call, the screen on the S24 goes black.  As I am hard of hearing I need the phone close to my ear.  This part is not really the issue however when I want to end the call, I cannot see the button for terminating the call. If I then press the on off switch the screen will flash up momently and go black again because the caller the other end has not hung up. This is very annoying if it is one of the scam calls and you cannot terminate the conversation.

If this cannot be resolved due to the proximity issue and the screen blanking out, then it is my view the phone is not fit for purpose as I cannot terminate the call.  I have done a Google and tried all sorts of suggestions to be able to terminate the call, but the screen only stays live for about a split second.  I am unsure if there is a way around this very annoying proximity sensor otherwise I will need to return the phone for one that does not have this annoying feature.

What's display screen timeout set out to? Increase it to maybe 1 minute

It is set to two minutes, but the moment I call a number, the screen goes blank or black.  I have tried it holding the phone in front of me and the screen still blacks out so probably not an issue with proximity sensor?  Very annoying when one wants to terminate the call and the screen is blank.😡

I just tap the screen and it lights up. Or it lights as i move the phone away from my ear

I appreciate your help and input and wish it was that easy.  The screen goes black immediately I make a call.  When terminating the call, tapping does not immediately reactivate the screen.  It takes several taps.  However during the several tap scenario the screen may light up for a split second before going black again.  I do leave a gap between the taps.  Previously I had the A53 and had none of these issues so expect better from a premium phone.  I now suspect there is an issue with the phone as otherwise it is brilliant.  Seems I will need to contact support if I can find the contact details somewhere on the website.

An update.  I manage to get pass the Chatbot eventually and converse with a real live person.  Did a few checks and also found that there was an UI update from early August that had not been downloaded although phone is set for automatic updates.  Downloaded the update and it seems okay now. 😊

I have the same black screen problem and moreover I didnt know the other person can cut the call.. SO I panicked and restarted the phone 2 times when it happened. Now I have done the August 1 Update. Hopefully it wont happen again....
