I have a problem with video calls on my s24 ultra. If i use wifi and make video calls on WhatsApp and kakaotalk the video from my camera is blurry, strange and seems laggy. This is visible for both me and the other person. I also get messages in kakao saying "bad network connection".

If i turn off wifi the quality gets a little bit better but it's still blurry and mouth movements look strange and unnatural. Like i used a bad software to make an image seem to be talking.

If i make video calls on instagram the image is crystal clear. Even when using wifi. Same thing if i do video calls (with wifi) on WhatsApp and kakaotalk using my s21 ultra or my iPhone. So the problem seems to be isolated to kakaotalk and WhatsApp on my s24 ultra.

The only difference i have seen is that there's a notice about "video call effects" being active (or something similar) when making video calls on WhatsApp and kakaotalk. I have opened it and made sure that no effect seems to be active but the image quality from my camera is still extremely poor.

The "video call effects" does not appear when using Instagram. So i am starting to wonder if it's the video call effects that is the problem?

Is there any way to turn this off completely?

@Members_iFJGRvw: To check if the problem is the result of a video call effect, please swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom while a video call is active, and 'Video call effects' will be visible towards the top of the screen. Tap on this option, and disable any active settings from here.

You can also head to Settings > Advanced features > Video call effects, and explore further options from here such as the Background colour and Background image.

Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your reply. All of the effects seem to be turned off.

But i did some additional testing and If i change from 5ghz wi-fi to 2,4ghz the quality becomes a little bit better. The image from my camera is still blurry, grainy and with unnatural looking movements compared to doing the same video call on Instagram. But the video feed from my phone seems to stop freezing (on 5ghz it keeps freezing up).

I will test on another 5ghz wifi and see if the problem seems to be with the band or if it's isolated to my wifi router at home.

Thank you for taking the time and trying to help! 🙂
