Hi @x_ASHURA_x
There are some previous recent threads from people who have raised this point.
As said by @AM4N this can be achieved via Goodlock and it's plugins.
Samsung may push an update at sometime via a software update to change how this works natively at the moment.
If I can be of any further help then please don't hesitate. Take care. 😎

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.
I'm here to help. " This is the way. "

I really hope they'll bring it back, the gesture bar takes to long to open the tab menu and the classic navigation bar is a bit too intrusive

Sorry to jump in here, but within GoodLock / NavStar / On / Advanced options ... you have the option to customize the navigation bar height.
If you have your bar set to the lowest setting, you can free up a very small extra amount of screen real estate.
It's not much of a big deal, but it's something. You can also choose navigation buttons that are very small and use even less space.
To be honest, after using navigation buttons for several days, I'm used to it. I would prefer gestures, but it's not the end of the world. The good folks at Samsung will sort this out.

The way to do it is simple and straight forward and as follows:
1. Go to to phone settings and go on Display settings and scroll down and select Navigation bar afterwards select swipe gestures
2. Open GoodLock app and select NavStar and then swipe gestures and click on the: Enable extra gesture settings
3. Repeat step 1 and open the more options tab there you will find the swipe gestures and that's it
