Lock screen notifications

Hello, has anyone managed to see their notifications, like messages, when their phone is locked and idle? My phone doesn't light up or show messages despite going through all the correct settings

check your settings under display settings and  Always on Display and if its set to on and show for new notifications.

So just to confirm in order to get your lockscreen to wake up (light up) for notification you had to factory reset the phone? I've been dealing with this issue since launch and haven't found a solution yet.
