Editing a photo - using pen to encircle

I don't edit my photos that often but today came across something I thought odd.

I simply wanted to encircle something on my photo.  I click on the Pen,  Draw - smiley with the pen.

So far, so good.

If I choose the Basic Pen - the leftmost yellow pen/pencil or the green marker next to it, I can only draw straight lines, nothing else.

Is this a glitch ... or am I not understanding something?

EDIT  - - - I'm not sure what I changed, but  I can now draw on the screen like I want to.

I now see a squiggly line above the Basic Pen.  Sorry.

The basic pen icon changes depending on the last pen you used. See screenshots. If you used the auto doodle pen last (2nd screenshot), then that will be the one showing where the basic pen should be. Tap the basic pen as per your screenshot, and then on the next window that pops up, tap the basic pen again (1st screenshot). When you close that window, the basic pen should now be the one showing. This is true of all the basic pen variations. The glitch is that the label (press on the icon or hover with s pen) stays the same, which is confusing. It should really reflect the actual pen selected from the settings window. Saying that, it would seem that the label is just a pointer to the menu window that pops up when the pen icon is tapped. Confusing but makes sense.1718571784087.jpg1718571784124.jpg
