Darken Screen when using SPen S24 Ultra

I would appreciate some advice please.

Scenario 1- when my screen is displaying any image, removing the SPen and selecting screen write display the image brightness as per original image

Scenario 2 (the issue) - retrieving a previously saved screen shot OR photo and removing the SPen to start writing on the "newly created" screen shot, the whole image or photo darkens.

Question - how do I get an image that is of normal brightness in Scenario 2?

I read another post on darken photos and checked my Gallery Settings and my Super HDR setting was turned off.

In my case, I get the darken effect on both image and photos as soon as I try to write with my SPen on a previously saved file.

Thank you.

By chance, I managed to solve the issue, but not without encountering another one.

The default photo/image reader was Google Photos. I changed it to Gallery, and the problem was fixed. However, when I used Google Photos as the default app, it had a menu for Lens. In Gallery, that option bar was not present. This means that if I want to use Lens, it is a two-step process of retrieving the image in Lens.

I had to uninstall Google Photos for it to work. I double-checked and reinstalled it to try again, and the issue persisted.

I hope this is a viable solution for anyone who faces the same problem. Perhaps it is an Android/Google/Samsung bug that needs to be fixed. Thank you.

Hello @Glimmer1

I have tried to replicate what you have performed to see if my Samsung Galaxy s²⁴ Ultra provides different results. 😎

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.

Super HDR is set to Off.

Thank you. Perhaps one of my other settings is different. Yes, Super HDR is OFF. I am not sure why only in Scenario 2 the screen darkens.

Yes I'd definitely go through all the relevant settings with a fine tooth comb as it were @Glimmer1

I think if neither of you experiences this, then you both have the "normal" settings, and mine has shifted.

I went through each of the settings in these three areas but, unfortunately, could not resolve the issue. I marked the images with "Scenario 1," but the moment I retrieved them after saving in "Scenario 2," the screen darkened again.

I am not sure what next steps to take.

Just as a troubleshooting step try these @Glimmer1

1, Safe Mode  > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-to-start-my-galaxy-device-in-safe-mode/ turns off downloaded apps and themes etc which may highlight an app or theme that's causing conflict.

2, Clear Cache Files from the phone's System Partition Section  > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-on-my-device/ You may need to insert your earphones or hook upto a powered On Laptop or use a Tv's USB Port to access the Clear Partition Section. This may help with lag or stutters as this clears the phone of old/unused or broken cache files. There is also a Repair Apps option in the Menu System too.

Thank you! S2 (Scenario 2) worked like S1 in Safe Mode, so no darken screen. I also took photos of the unhighlighted Apps in safe mode. Instead of removing and reinstalling, I will disable each App one by one until I identify which App is impacting response like S2.

Lol, lots to go through. I have cleared cache memory as you suggested but that had no effect on the issue.
