Hi,

I know there's a way to take a screenshot then cut the middle out of it, but I can't remember what it is!! Can anyone remind me?

What I mean is e.g. if I have a group chat alone the lines of:

"X's birthday on Monday, anyone free?"
"I am"
"Sorry, we're not"
"Let's all meet at yyyy at 7"

And I want to s-shot the first and last messages in one shot, but cut out the middle ones.

Not really what you wanted, but that's the closest I got to it, unfortunately. There may be an app that could do it better?1715024411570_1715024411553_0.jpg

Thanks. There's definitely a way to remove the middle bits so it looks like there was no middle bit, I just can't remember how!!

It came in an update to whatever I used (I think it was the direct screenshotting tool, but I might be misremembering). I remember seeing it, trying it out, thinking "ooh, this'll be handy"... and forgetting the rest

Hi @GoboboGo

You could use AI to delete the relevant messages.

Take s-shot of th chat.

Open image on Gallery

Tap AI logo on the left (blueish circle with stars)

Select the messages to delete.

Tap selection and hold until menu appears

Tap eraser icon to erase selection

Tap the Generate button.

You could also use the object eraser. I made a step by step on this post.

Thanks. I was hoping to cut out the whole area rather than just the messages, so there's no gap between the top retained bit and the bottom, but AI doesn't seem to want to do that.

It doesn't matter that much, I was just trying to neaten up some info I was sharing. It's just frustrating as I know there's a simple way!

There's apps that can 'stitch' two sections together, but not sure if it works with text.

There's a somewhat hacky way to do this with the built-in tools. First to go to the Gallery and long press on the image you want to work with, then hit Create at the bottom, and choose Collage. You'll want to go to the rightmost tool and shrink the ugly white border to 0.

Get your screenshot aligned and leave a little margin on the bottom of the stuff you want gone. Then in the mini Collage box that pops up (usually upper right), select the same image and Drag the corner size controls so that you only see the second part of the conversation you wanted, then Move (top center) that box over the bottom margin you left earlier, readjusting as necessary. Also the ratio controls can be awkward, it's easier to just lay the second image over the first in Collage, then use the regular Gallery Crop tool to trim any excess from the bottom of the image.
