Hi, the camera app on my phone freezes at what seem to be random intervals and I can only unfreeze it by restarting the phone. Has anybody else had that problem?
Thanks,
John.

@Edwardjohn: To troubleshoot the issue, please start by heading to Settings > Apps > Camera > Force stop > Storage > Clear cache, then press the Volume Down and Power buttons together for around 10 seconds until the phone restarts. This will perform a Soft Reset, and resolve any temporary software issues. Don't worry, this won't affect your personal data or settings.

If the issue persists, then please head to Settings > Software update > Download and install, followed by Settings > Security and privacy > Updates > Security update, to ensure that your phone is fully up to date. Furthermore, open the Galaxy Store > Tap the 3 lines in the bottom right > Updates, and install any available updates for the Camera app.

If you continue to see the 'Camera failed' error, then please head to the Samsung Members app > Support > Phone diagnostics > Camera, and follow the on-screen prompts. Do you see an 'Action required' notification in the summary at the end of the test?

Hello @Edwardjohn and may I extend a Warm Welcome to the Samsung Community Forum Section for Uk and Eu members.

Sometimes performing the following troubleshooting steps may yield results.

1. https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/my-galaxy-smartphone-has-frozen-how-do-i-restart-i...

2. Clear Cache Files from the phone's System Partition Section  > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-on-my-device/ You may need to insert your earphones or hook upto a powered On Laptop or use a Tv's USB Port to access the Clear Partition Section. This may help with lag or stutters as this clears the phone of old/unused or broken cache files.There is also a Repair Apps option in the Menu System too { Possibly excluding the s²⁴ Series of phone's }

3. Safe Mode  > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-to-start-my-galaxy-device-in-safe-mode/ turns off downloaded apps and themes etc which may highlight an app or theme that's causing conflict. Alternatively long press the power off button and then long hold on Turn Off to get to Safe Mode.

If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask  😎

@Edwardjohn: I'm sorry to hear that. If the Diagnostics tool has flagged an issue with the Camera, then I recommend arranging for the phone/camera module to be inspected by one of our engineers.

To do so, please head to samsung.com > Scroll to the bottom of the page > Contact us, or use the Samsung Members app > Support > Repair service > Request service.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.

I did have the phone picked up for repair but the Samsung diagnostic engineers could not replicate the problem so they sent it back. After a day or so of use it failed again and became quite hot to the touch
I left it in this condition until the phone shut down completely and restarted seemingly on its own. So I am left in the catch 22 position where the Samsung engineers cannot replicate the fault because they are probably not using it as a normal user would and their diagnostic tools are just not capable of replicating the problem. Samsung have offered to pick the phone up again but I'm thinking what is the point of that if they cannot replicate the problem and just send it back again unrepaired.

I purschased a brand new S24 at BestBuy in the USA, on Septermber 15th and the front camera freezes and eventually shuts down. Same issue like you, hoping to get a solution but looks like this has been on for long time now.

My phone has been back to Samsung for supposed repair twice now and each time the inadequate diagnostic software cannot replicate the fault I've had it back for the second time and it's now just failed again.
