I'm aware that downgrading to UI 6 is not a good idea due to other firmware patches etc. But I absolutely loathe UI 7, it's clunky, the usability is in the dump, the icons are weirdly sized and layouted. I particularly dislike the new battery icon being that bloody huge. I don't understand many of the changes or why they are considered "better".
Is there any hidden setting to enable the old UI? If not, where does one petition samsung to add this button / have them explain why they thought any of this was a good idea?

You're right! Going back is a very bad idea as you also risk bricking your device and losing your warranty- being the only way you can do it is dodgy means
I've seen a lot of comments about the battery icon. And you can submit feedback! Samsung Members support—feedback. As to getting a "why," I'm unsure.
You can't exactly "go back," but there are plenty of tips which will get your phone pretty similar. Any specifics?

I want to basically revert everything they did. APP icons are easy enough with a theme that's close enough to thr original, but I want to also revert the clock widget, calendar widget, app grid and the status icons (everything in the top bar). The settings on the notification tray that I specifically configured.
I do not understand why anyone would think it's a good idea to change fundamental UI element designs without the option to keep the old icons. Those correspond to corporate identity, people get used to them and have to "relearn" all sorts of icons and app icons, they probably configured important UI elements like the calendar in a specific way etc. I work in software dev, we would never ever do this to a ui without warning and gathering feedback (doing a beta drive, see how people react, adjust accordingly).

There was a running beta for a while on the S24—I was one of those who opted in. And then they did a beta after for the other models.
I believe the idea of UI 7 was to "rebuild the UI from the ground up" to try to entice more people to Samsung.
*out of curiosity, as Im doing a degree in AI, but also software engineering- what type of software do you work on?

I know this must have gone through endless layers of marketing, qa, design and user experience groups. Why no one ever stopped to think "hm, maybe we shouldn't annoy all of our current customers in an vein attempt to lure new ones"... oh well... going to use a lot of third party apps or waste time reconfiguring a lot.
I'm a software architect working on large scale data driven IoT / data science projects as well as AI (technically a consultant, so i might work on something else next week unexpectedly... but i usually stay with projects for years).

My honest opinion on UI7 is I didn't hugely notice a difference, but tbh can't really remember UI6 anymore. I enjoy the design. The forums have proven that many don't.
*That's also very interesting! Thank you for sharing.

In the end. I'll get used to it. Not like they made it unusable. But the way I navigate UIs relies heavily on positioning (I sometimes do it blind, so any change that messes with the layout is a big disruption, especially the settings in the top bar) and pattern recognition. Like looking for a very specific icons parts (like just a specific red stripe on a particular angle, not really what the icon represents, like a camera) while scanning my eyes over it... and changing the icons obviously destroys all of that. It just makes it very 🐌 ...
Was just hoping for a secret button v_v
