Black Screen software error

I was trying to adjust screen rotate when my S23 screen went black. It still responded haptically and I managed to receive a phone call by tapping in the area of the screen where I knew the green accept button is.
I tried forcing a reset. The Samsung logo appeared, but then faded away to a black screen again. I knew the battery had plenty of charge.
A local repair shop sorted it - I had accidentally set screen brightness to zero with my fat fingers (screen brightness is right next to screen rotation).
Why is it possible to set screen brightness to zero? And why is it so easy?
There is no need for zero screen brightness. And there cannot be any reason to have a phone that you can disable so easily, and re-enable only at a repair shop!
If it must be allowed, why is it not difficult and long-winded to do, like a factory reset? And with a simple method to restore brightness?

Hi! Welcome to the Samsung Members community!

You can't set the screen to absolute darkness, but it can go pretty dark—that, mixed with the AMOLED screen, may appear to be off depending on how dark the background is. You change the brightness as you did originally—the only way from the lock screen is by swiping down and sliding the brightness down/up.

However, you absolutely shouldn't need a repair shop; that's not how the device works. It's easy to adjust the brightness depending on how dark/bright the room is. A simple case of sliding the slider. What may help is going to Settings > Display, and turning on "adaptive brightness."

"It's easy to adjust the brightness" - that's precisely my point!
It's summer and sunny ATM. Even indoors the screen looked black. I accidentally tapped the extreme left side of the brightness slider, so it instantly went very dark. As far as I could tell, the screen was black.
My point is that this should not happen so easily. There should be a confirmation screen asking if I really want the screen brightness so low that it looks black except in a darkened room.

My last point—about adaptive screen brightness. If it's sunny, it will bring the brightness up.

No phone on the planet adds complications to brightness adjusting for users. I believe this would also have to be implemented by Android (google) I see it may be a want on your end, but it's not a realistic ask. I mean, they moved a search bar recently, and that made thousands kick off—I can't imagine how this would go down.

However- be sure to go to samsung members app- support- feedback. Samsung will see the suggestion then

I'm only suggesting that it should be more complicated to set brightness so low that it looks black in most lighting situations. I can’t believe that this would bother many people.
How would adaptive brightness help if I accidentally set brightness to extremely low?
