Strange problem with music app on S23 Ultra not showing all folders

I have about 25 folders under the internal storage/music folder, if I select Folder view on the music app I can usually use them absolutely fine. In the folder view I can also see a couple of audiobooks I have stored in the internal storage/downloads folder.

Today I noticed I can only see two of the folders under /music through the music app. I checked with the Samsung "My Files" app and all 25 are still there.

If I go to any of the folders in the "my files" app that I *cannot* see in the music app, and select a track, it plays in the music app happily.

I cleared the cache and the data in the music app: this didn't change the problem. I then deinstalled the music app and reinstalled it and this didn't change the problem. I rebooted the phone, and then also cleared the phones cache partition - this didn't change the problem.

I just moved one of the *missing* folders from the /music folder to the /downloads folder, cleared cache and data in the music app, and opened it again: I can't see it in the folders view.

I then moved two of the music folders I *can* see in the music app into another folder, cleared cache and data in the music app and restarted it and they have disappeared from the music app folder list, as you'd expect them to. When I moved them back into the /music folder they reappeared in the music app folder view.

I've troubleshooted as much as I can as above but cannot fix it - it almost looks like a file system fault, but there isn't any equivalent of a file system checker I can run on the S23 Ultra. Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

Edit: it's getting really odd now - I removed all music folders from my phone, rebooted and re-added a few of them manually. The only ones I could see in the music app were the ones that it displayed before, none of the others showed there.

I then created a new folder called MUSIC2 and added in a few of the other folders that weren't being displayed in the music folder before, as one of the ones that did: none of them, correctly, displayed in the music app as, obviously, the "music2" folder isn't the one the app looks at. I then deleted the music folder, renamed the music2 folder to music, and opened the music app and the only folder that showed was the album that previously was fine, none of the others showed. What in goodness is going on with this phone? It either has become sentient and decided it only likes Depeche Mode and Bruce Springsteen or there's a bigger issue!

Hi and Welcome.

If using Samsung Music app.

Could try going to the FOLDERS tab on the top of the app.

Click on the 3 dots top left
Click on Hide folders

And uncheck if any are checked

I hope this helps.
