Samsung S23 Ultra unusual battery draining with "Contacts Storage"

My phone started draining battery very badly since a few days ago, say 4 to 5 days ago and my phone is also overheating badly. Upon checking my battery usage, there is this "Contacts Storage" tops the list everyday. Also, there is a notification every 1 minute showing "Google Contacts backing up 1 contact".

I tried every possible methods as follows:

  1. Hard restart phone

  2. Clear cache for Google, contacts, Gmail, chrome

  3. Disable all accounts contact sync except for my primary Gmail account which consists of all my call contacts.

  4. Disable and enable Contact sync for my Gmail account

    5. Updated my phone to UI 6.0

None of these methods work.

So what should I do now to resolve this unexpected issue? I'm now charging my phone every 3 hours and it will be dead within 4 hours with light usage on WiFi only.

I contacted Samsung Hong Kong customer service and they told me there is nothing they can do for me.

Clear the partition cache and see if this fixes it, 4 hour uptime is horrific

Unfortunately you have posted on the UK/European Community site, I am sure there is an Asia/Hong Kong site where others maybe have experienced similar issues and asked to advise better

I haven't been back to Hong Kong in years so cant say what the experiance is or what consumer rights you have there

Hello. Nope. Nothing on the internet works.

I disabled so many system apps and 3rd apps that have access to "Contacts Storage" and is now causing my Google account contacts no longer sync properly. However, the massive "Contacts Storage" battery drain persist. The only thing i have not tried is to perform factory reset.

Tried wipe partition cache. It doesn't work still.

Like i said, Samsung Hong Kong wasn't able to advise me anything. The last advice they gave me was to hand in my phone for factory reset which is something that i reluctant to do. This is a flagship device and i can't be wiping everything on my phone without another backup phone. I am not using a XiaoMi or Huawei.

I am also encountering the same problem. Despite performing multiple hard resets, the issue persists. I am patiently awaiting Samsung's resolution to this matter.
