I just got s23fe from 02. It is ok but have noticed that the touchscreen doesn't seem to work as great. It sometimes freezes or just doesn't recognise the screen been touched it seems. I'm wondering if this is a defective phone or is it somewhat normal. Doesn't make sense as it's 1 month old and should be working perfectly smoothly

You can check that it is on the latest security patch. You can also check under display options>accidental touch protection and touch sensitive options to see if adjusting them help. I have the S23FE with a screen protector on and have accidental touch on but touch sensitivity off.

If by security patch you mean updating security updates, I just installed updates 2 days ago so not sure it's that. I do have a screen protector on . O checked under settings as you mentioned. Accidental touch was on and Sensitivity was off. I have just turned that on . Hopefully it helps.
Thank you!

It's also worth wiping the cache partition after security update or os upgrade. https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-on-my-device/
