Just had a look on the store. It's now telling me it's no longer compatible with my device. 

So what is the replacement app for this?

Yes. There is no update. Looks like the app is being retired with no solution to a new app

I've certainly not heard that Samsung plan to retire the Gallery App.

Something doesn't sound right here. Is your device a UK version being used in the UK? Where did you get it from?

@ApexAssassin: We don't have any plans in the near future to remove support for the Gallery app, so I'm not too sure why you might be encountering this issue. The Samsung Gallery app cannot be updated via the Google Play Store, as a recent search did not produce any results when I checked.  For clarity, please can you confirm the model number of your device, where it was purchased, and where you are currently located. Also, have you installed any ROMs or unauthorised software onto the device?

Just had a look. Apparently, I am on the latest version.

I got my phone from EE in the UK
