Hi all!

Just upgraded my software update now, I was on 89% when I updated the software and now I'm on 79%. Should I be worried about it?
Would Samsung fix this issue now with the battery life in there next update!?

Also the lack of late and delayed software updates is shocking now. Can anyone else also recommend any other phones away from Samsung? With amazing battery life and decent for gaming (Roblox) / running Life360.

It appears that your mind is made up. However, I can't imagine many have suggestions of "other phones." Samsung is the biggest Android manufacturer, and there's a reason for that. You may encounter more issues, so do your own research and discover what works for you.

This forum is full of solutions and support for any issues we face. Give the forums a quick search.

My biggest suggestion for battery after an update would be to clear cache partition.

@King132  I agree it is advisable to clear the cache partition after updates, some temporary cache files become outmoded or even corrupt and it can help some issues.   However Battery level will drop during update (extent depends on the size of the file). Whilst nothing definitive/official  on One UI 7  the update will roll out in due course and having as a stable release as possible is paramount.

In my opinion Samsung Devices are superior but you could like at Pixel Devices for instance if you are not convinced.

No don't worry as the update does take a lot of resource to download and then upload onto the phone @King132

As for other phones have a look on YouTube to see what ticks your wants and needs boxes.

After an update you can also perform >

  • Clear Cache Files from the phone's System Partition Section  > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-on-my-device/ You may need to insert your earphones or hook upto a powered On Laptop or use a Tv's USB Port or a usb-c to usb-c phone to phone set up to access the Clear Partition Section. This may help with lag or stutters as this clears the phone of old/unused or broken cache files.There is also a Repair Apps option in the Menu System too { Possibly excluding the s²⁴ Series of phone's }

If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask  😎

Daily Driver > Samsung Galaxy s²⁵ Ultra 512Gb ~ Titanium Black.

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.

I think the Repair Apps option is no longer available. However the Galaxy Apps Booster from the Good Guardians suite does similar job, can be downloaded from Galaxy Store. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sammyfans.com/2023/07/23/download-the-latest-samsung-good-guardians...

It usually happens after updates. Give it some time and it will be back to normal.

had two calls with Samsung support about the issue. First of all the information given was that with every update users report issues with the battery. My opinion on this is that this is true, the question is to which extend is it really evident and how many people report that issue.

Therefore, please report the problem via Samsungs member app so that they know that more people run into this issue.

Support from Samsung was given in the way that I was told to use the phone in offline mode and with WiFi/Wlan-Calling to save battery as the signal in my flat/apartment is very bad (info: but it hasn't changed since the update) and that I should not use "Maximum" battery saving with only max. 80% charge instead use "Adaptive" with max. 100% charge.

A huge factory on battery drain can/could be the network you are in with your SIM cards.

Charging to 100%, being in "Offline" mode with WiFi/WLAN calling brought me to better battery life!

BUT the thing is that all of this was not necessary before the update! The mentioned changes in how I use my phone are partly inconvenient and additionally I don't trust the "Adaptive" modus with 100% charging to be as battery pleasing as the "Maximum" modus with max. 80%.

According to the support and the measuring tools my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra should have full battery capacity with 5000mAh and only a battery cycle count of 488 after a bit more than 2 years.

The support admitted at least that the prediction for how long a full charge will last, which was a bit more than one 1 day, was way to little and not explainable.

What I have recognized with the 100% full charge was that after I unplugged the charging cable that I lost 3% down to 97% in a few minutes. Plugged the cable back in again to charge to 100% and waited for bit more - unplugged and got 100% for quite some longer time.

Projection at 91% charge for how long a charge lasts was now at 3d 19h!!!!

Projection at 88% charge for how long a charge lasts dropped to 2d 3h.

mofly4_2-1741111633163.jpeg

Projection at 77% charge for how long a charge lasts dropped to 1d 5h.

mofly4_3-1741111633163.jpeg

Conclusion

  • According to Samsungs measurements battery is still 100%.
  • According to AccuBattery before February 2025 update battery is around 4640mAh and 96%
  • According to AccuBattery after February 2025 update battery is around 4267mAh and 88%

Realistically I was able before February 2025 update to have a full day from 4 pm to 4pm with a charge from 80% down to 15% with a screen on time around 4,5 hours.

After February 2025 update:

  • Lost 373 mAh or around 8% capacity
  • After charging to 80% losing immediately 3% in a few minutes
  • Can't get through a whole day 24h with 80% ->15%
  • Have to charge around 6,5 hours earlier only 17,5 hours from 80% -> 15%

Problem Causes:

  1. Technical defect that accidentally appeared at the time the update was installed --> I don't think so
  2. Some general software bug that doesn't read the battery correct.
  3. Some software bug around the SIM network connection that causes the battery to drain faster.
  4. Combination of point 2 and 3.

I really hope that this buggy battery behavior is not on purpose from Google or Samsung. I bought the device with the plan to use it as long there are updates for it (5 years). It is not even at half of it its official support lifetime and shows degradation. My hope is that the next update brings a fix for it but I am really skeptical as there seems to be no acknowledging to that there is an issue at all. If they would at least admit it and work on a fix I would be way more confident for a fix.

Additionally according to Samsung support it could already be that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra may become OneUI 7 Update already in March 2025.
