S23 Ultra Update - Sudden Battery Drain

About 10 days after an update, my business phone (clean, no bloatware) suddenly went blank while using the S Pen in the gallery—no shutdown logo, warning, or response.

Battery was around 40%, and the phone has never been dropped or had issues before.

Thankfully, it shows the charging icon and fast charges with the original 25W Samsung charger. Hoping it turns back on.

What could this be?

UPDATE

Upon turning it back on, the date was changed automatically to Feb 25, 2025 and time as 1:55pm. (I don't use network auto date and time settings).

It can't be a virus. Must be some issue with the last update, i believe.

Sounds like a glitch to me @EcomGypsy

First turn the phone Off and On i.e a Soft Reboot, but if that does not help then follow this by trying a forced reboot by holding down the volume down key and power button simultaneously for more than 7 seconds to restart it. When your phone resets, you will feel it vibrate.

If necessary then try Clear Cache Files from the phone's System Partition Section  > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-on-my-device/ You may need to insert your earphones or hook upto a powered On Laptop or use a Tv's USB Port or a usb-c to usb-c phone to phone set up to access the Clear Partition Section. This may help with lag or stutters as this clears the phone of old/unused or broken cache files.There is also a Repair Apps option in the Menu System too { Possibly excluding the s²⁴ Series of phone's }

And Https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-to-start-my-galaxy-device-in-safe-mode/

Ultimately a factory reset.

If needed a Samsung Service Centre can assess the phone too.

If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask  😎

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.

Thanks for the effort. My phone's battery suddenly went from 30% or so to 0% all of a sudden and the screen went off without any shutdown animation. Upon connecting the charger cable it started charging. Now it is already at 40% from 100% charge within like 16 hours using just WiFi which is kinda NOT normal. Using OFF & ON, I manage to use the battery for 45+ hours with each 100% charge.
Looks like the battery life is over now (Aug2023 to Apr 2025. hmm!) Not sure, let's see if it is the battery that's gone.

UPDATE
Now, the battery is draining very quickly from 25% to 0. Also, when I recharge the phone and switch it back on, the date and time is messed up on its own.

It is most  likely the update which is messing with the software and the battery.

SAMSUNG's quality is downhill. (If flagship is this bad, then!!)

Check with the battery app and see which app is draining the battery.

Nothing in particular. The highest usage was reported from Always On Display.

UPDATE:
I rarely used battery protection—often charged below 3% and kept the phone ON while charging for over a year. For the past 8 months, I’ve charged it OFF to 100%, and with only Wi-Fi use, it lasted 48 hours.

Issue:
Since the Mar 31, 2025 update, the phone suddenly shuts off around 40% battery, and now barely lasts 24 hours. After rebooting, the date/time reset to a month ago.

Possibilities:

  1. Battery degradation

  2. Faulty update

  3. Malware

Disappointed—never expected this from a flagship. Might rethink sticking with Samsung.

I’ve figured it out — the ***** battery is toast, and it's only been two freaking years. Are you kidding me, Samsung? I treated this S23 Ultra with care, just like I did my old A71, which still works fine after four years. But your so-called flagship? Crashed and burned.

The issue started over 6 months ago when fast charging stopped working while powered on. It made those annoying pinging sounds, like a faulty cable — I tried two original Samsung chargers and nothing fixed it. I had to charge it powered off, so the “Protect Battery” feature? Useless. And sometimes it stayed plugged in at 100% for longer than it should’ve. No wonder the battery’s dead now.

You call this premium? I paid a hefty chunk of my hard-earned money for this, and now I feel totally ripped off. And don’t even get me started on the S25 Ultra — same ***** battery, and you even removed Bluetooth from the S Pen? What kind of downgrade is that?

Let’s not forget the moon photo scandal — fake as hell. That’s not just disappointing — it’s deceitful. In the world of retail, it screams “untrustworthy brand.”

Samsung, you’ve become a joke, and frankly, I’m done. Keep this up, and you’ll be replaced in no time.

Screw this. Screw you. Do better.
