One UI 6.1: Improve 'Show music information' on AOD

I updated my Samsung Galaxy S23 to One UI and noticed that they changed some things for the Always on display. One change is the way music information is shown if this option is switched on. Now a slightly slower and dimmer version of the music player is shown (see screenshot). This doesn't make a lot of sense to me for multiple reasons.

  • It takes a lot of spaces on the AOD (I don't like to have a cluttered AOD).
  • It shows music controls (pause, next/previous song etc.) that you cannot press.
  • It shows the seekbar that doesn't seem to update and you cannot press/slide it either.

Therefore I have turned this option off. Maybe the new way makes more sense together with the show wallpaper on AOD option on the S24, but this option isn't even available on S23.

The way music informaation was shown on AOD in One UI 6.0, i.e. just one line of text with the artist and song name (see second screenshot), was IMO so much more practical. Please bring back at least option to show music information on AOD like on One UI 6.0 and earlier.

How did you get this much of brightness, please? After UI 6.1 update on my S23U, the AOD is almost invisible and removed the adjustable brightness

It's just a screenshot so it doesn't show the real brightness I think.

I had the brightness setting on 'Auto britghness' even before updating to OneUI 6.1 (which always worked to my satisfaction). But I realize people are missing the option to manually adjust the brightness that Samsung has taken away with One UI 6.1. Never a fan of taking away options, but I heard it will at least come back via GoodLock, see

It is becoming ridiculous how many simple features are being moved to Good Lock. There are so many features that no one uses, and it would not take up that much space to allow users to change things on their phones. Going to Good Lock for these features is annoying and not easy, as you need to know which category to look in for the feature you want. I really like Samsung and have been telling my friends to buy their phones, but the way they are going, I may need to look at a different Android platform. Considering that the phones are not cheap, this is a major inconvenience, not in particular this feature but so many little things. So much anticipation for the UI 6.1, and it is great and like the AI features, but not as exciting as they make it out to be.

There's a flipside to this argument that says simplicity is just more elegant. I personally think more features available to me is best, but I understand that too much customisable features to an end user can have a negative effect as well. The fact you have Goodlock to me is the benefit of having a Samsung device. It means the options are there to those who need/want it whilst not bombarding other users with useless options they'd never use. Good compromise tbh.

Yeah, I get that, but we still need to make sure that removing options does not affect the consumer and that customization is available before removing it. As is true on this occasion, AOD is mostly useless as we can barely see it.

100% agreed. Hopefully, the software update will sort it out this unacceptable dimm AOD. I love Samsung for a long time, but this made me crazy

I appreciate the discussion, but as AOD brightness isn't the original topic of this thread, it would be great if the discussion about brightness could continue in another (suitable) thread (see e.g link below). Thanks everyone!
