I updated my Samsung Galaxy S23 to One UI and noticed that they changed some things for the Always on display. One change is the way music information is shown if this option is switched on. Now a slightly slower and dimmer version of the music player is shown (see screenshot). This doesn't make a lot of sense to me for multiple reasons.
- It takes a lot of spaces on the AOD (I don't like to have a cluttered AOD).
- It shows music controls (pause, next/previous song etc.) that you cannot press.
- It shows the seekbar that doesn't seem to update and you cannot press/slide it either.
Therefore I have turned this option off. Maybe the new way makes more sense together with the show wallpaper on AOD option on the S24, but this option isn't even available on S23.
The way music informaation was shown on AOD in One UI 6.0, i.e. just one line of text with the artist and song name (see second screenshot), was IMO so much more practical. Please bring back at least option to show music information on AOD like on One UI 6.0 and earlier.
One UI 6.1
One UI 6.0 and earlier.

It's not that functional maybe, but I really like the look of the music player on the AOD. I have noticed that the progress bar updates every minute. Also, I'm sure you know this but anyway, if you "minimize" the music player on the lockscreen, it gives the AOD a cleaner look if you want that.

Thank you for your answer. To me it looks out of place, especially since it's the only thing with colors on the AOD (everything else is black and white), but that's of course subjective.
You're right that minimizing makes it less intrusive, however I usually want it expanded on the lock screen and wouldn't like to switch back and forth all the time.

Thank you for your reply.
I prefer a minimalistic AOD as well.
And yes, the battery status on AOD near the bottom of the screen is noticeably smaller in one ui 6.1 compared to one ui 6.0 (don't know if it will be possible to customize via good lock). I'm using the new battery widget which is easier to read (see screenshot) . However, note that it switches to show the battery of Bluetooth devices like headphones if any are connected (which is the reason I added it).

I have problems with both the old and the new media display.
The new one is a bit better, but the useless and bulky control buttons really bother me. If they weren't there, I'd be perfectly happy.
The new extended media widget is particularly ugly and useless.
And with the old display, the one-line method was useless for me 99% of the time, because I couldn't even see the artist's name for long titles (and since I listen to mostly classical music, the titles are almost always long). For me the old display would be good in two lines (one line for title, one line for artist).

If you use Goodlock/Lockstar, and add another widget to the AOD, it brings back the old music player. At least it does for me on the S23 Ultra. I also just found that if you use the google clock widget, you can shrink it down into infinity, which gets the old player back without having to add a widget. Success!

Thank you very much for you reply. I tried your suggestion and indeed, it brings back the old-style music information! However, I noticed that adding a widget via good lock removes the new lock screen widgets introduced with one ui 6.1. As I really wanna use the new widgets, it's not the way to go for me personally. (Or am I missing a way to get good lock + new lock screen widgets?)

Has there been any response to how the music widget is now after ui 6.1? Not only how it's setup but I can no longer use the music widget. It's only for looks and is not functional. This needs to be remedied.
