Google assistant broken since update

Since the latest update, my Google Assistant no longer works. In the settings I am told it is not set as my default device, yet under default settings it is set as my default device. Why is this broken and how do I fix this

Settings >Google >Settings for Google Apps>Search, Assistant and Voice>down the left-hand side choose Google Assistant >Hey Google and Voice Match
Ensure "hey Google " is toggled on and, if necessary, you can also delete and retrain

You could also try uninstalling the Assistant and reinstalling.

Settings>apps>Assistant. You can only uninstall the latest updates, but give it a go nonetheless

This is greyed out so I can't enable it. It says I need to set it as default assistant. Yet in app default setting.. It is set as default?

Ok! Update thank you for the input I was able to uninstall and reinstall after I removed it from my device. It is working now thank you I thought I had tried everything!

The he new Samsung One UI updated and I lost "Hey Google". Checked the Assistant settings and it was toggled off. Hope the OP got it solved!
