I bought a new Samsung Galaxy S23 5G Dual SIM Android Mobile Phone on 31 May 2023 from Amazon UK Prime.  The last security update on this mobile was June 2023. It is still Android version 13 in settings there is an exclamation mark next to updates/Security Update 1 June 2023 but when I click updates there is a message 'Your software is up to date - Security Patch Level 1 June 2023'.  I am completely unable to update this phone to the later Android 14 or apply more recent version 13 Security updates.  I have tried all the suggestions online including safe mode, using the Samsung Smart Switch Software.  I even tried factory resetting my phone and restarting from scratch but even that hasn't worked!

Please can you confirm how I apply the latest security updates and upgrade this mobile to Android 14?  I am concerned this phone is not receiving any security updates and I am completely unable to rectify this problem.

Thanks @TechZilla I will certainly try your VPN and regional settings  suggestions.

Your device has been network unlocked, but the PLS code means it's still region locked to Poland. You will never get an OTA update while you're in the UK. Raise a case with Amazon to get a refund. If the seller is flogging these handsets under the pretense that they are for the UK market then report them.

@TechZilla thank you for the suggestion unfortunately neither solution worked - even connected to a Polish VPN and trying for 120 minutes I could not make this mobile phone register for a software or security update

I have raised a case with Amazon but I am not expecting to see the issue resolved.  This is all very frustrating - especially as it compromises the cyber security on the phone!

@Robin999 Thank you for your update - I am very concerned that amazon.co.uk will side with the seller as he described the phones as 'Global' naive me read that as meaning 'unlocked' I did not even realise that  regional locking was a thing!

It costs nothing to raise the case, so please don't be concerned. It's your right to complain. I'd emphasise that's it's being advertised and sold on a UK website for sale within the UK, and therefore should be suitable for the UK market.

Thank you @Robin999 I have an appointment with the Samsung Store in Kings Cross, London to discuss this issue.  I have raised a complaint with Amazon and will be taking it further after my meeting with Samsung on Wednesday.

Hopefully, Samsung Store can verify in writing that the phone is region locked to Poland and useless here in the UK. It isn't your responsibility to know what region locking means. I hope you get a satisfactory outcome.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to reply especially @OmegaMutant , @Robin999 and @TechZilla for their support and suggestions.

I have raised a complaint with Amazon and I am still waiting to hear back.  I also asked the question on the Amazon product page  - Will this product work in the UK - will it be able to receive Samsung security and software updates?  to which I received 5 replies all saying it will work fine and there will be no issues!

I will update you after my meeting with Samsung tomorrow.

Maybe you have full device protection. Maybe the device has had a pretty bad experience recently. Perhaps gravity has taken it for a ride to groundsville. Maybe it's cracked and simply not operating as expected ever since the incident. Hypothetically a new device will need to take its place. Could be that device is British. Too bad you couldn't save it. So sad.
