Problem:
Connecting phone (s23) to any computer/laptop does not work as it does not show the phone icon and thus not allow file transfer, only charging. On Ubuntu there is a phone icon but still does not work and error is given after clicking icon and waiting. Other Samsung phones all do work on same computers (Windows and Ubuntu) so it seems to be a phone problem. I did select MTP in notification and also tried PTP, also tried changing setting in developer mode to MTP as default. Safe mode is no different.
What does work:
Connecting a portable SSD directly to phone does work. ADB connection does work. Windows Device manager does detect a MTP device but with generic name (something like MTP USB device) instead of phone name (there are no errors about drivers).
What I tried:
I have already checked/tried everything so no need to answer with common things like drivers, developer mode, usb cables, usb ports, safe mode, wiping cache in recovery and trying smart switch.
I have also cleared data in system apps for USB settings, MTP and storage related apps, but it did nothing. The phone is not rooted and has never been rooted.
What I do not know:
I do not know if it worked before because I don't think I have connected the s23 to a computer before this attempt.
SUMMARY: Windows "is" detecting "a" (generic) MTP USB device in the background as a Portable Device (as can be seen in Windows Device Manager), but the phone does not show up in "This PC" of ANY of the computers/laptops I tried it with while other Samsung phones do work (with a specific phone name for Portable Devices in device manager) on the same computers/laptops I tried. It also does not work on computers with Ubuntu. I believe that something on the phone is wrong and prevents Windows from fully recognizing the phone for media transfer (PTP does not work either). A direct connection to a portable SSD does work.
Does this ring any bells for someone? I prefer not to do a factory reset (not sure if it helps either). I will first wait for a another One UI update before trying a factory reset.
EDIT: I have added info about trying it also with Ubuntu

I had no luck so far, without doing a factory reset. A new OneUI update did not matter for this.
Dex PC detected my phone but nothing else. It was stuck on the loading/preparing screen everytime again. I was asked to submit an error report through the members app. Which I decided not to cause privacy and also having to create an account.
So eventually I did a factory reset and it works now! First I tried resetting just the settings to see if the problem could the there but that did not work and so I continued with full reset (factory reset) and that worked.

No. It is disabled. I believe I disabled it right after the update it came with.

Hallo @tinytmp_pec2y,
To check whether this can be resolved, we also have the option to monitor you remotely. You can then make an appointment for a Remote Assistance session and one of my colleagues will call you back and monitor you remotely. My colleague can also make an adjustment or change where necessary. Look here for more information: https://bit.ly/2OhhbuU
With kind regards,
Ajay
