Voice to Text

For a while now voice to text hasn't worked on my phone.  

When I go to text it tries to create a recording, or I have to type in the text.   It used to work, and I didn't have to create and send a recording?

Just check all the steps to make sure it was set correctly and then re-started my phone.  

Its still trying to do a voice recording???  is there somewhere to turn that off ?

What app are you using?

Not sure (wouldn't it be Google?) - how do I check that?

oh sorry!  the app is Messages

I've changed voice input from  Samsung to Google voice and was able then to change input method to Google voice typing when in message
