Upgrading is a personal choice @JudePowell
I personally check out YouTube unboxings and ' vs ' type comparisons.
I wanted my next new phone to have a sPen silo built in which is why the s²¹ wasn't for me.
It also depends if a person likes the aesthetics of a phone i.e curved or flat screens and it's corners i.e boxy or curved.
I'd suggest to visit a Samsung Experience Store and or Highstreet Store thst has working retail demo models on display to get a feel for.
Above all enjoy the journey 😎

Hi @JudePowell If looking to buy now think I would go with the most up to date device. My impression is that the S22 Ultra will be a bit faster and more efficient, also brighter at 1750 nits compared to 1500. whilst the camera hardware is much the same the software is enhanced which is expected to create better image processing and Night photography is improved. This device has an inbuilt S Pen slot and is more like a Note device, though depends if that is important to you. The latest model is the only one to support 45 watt wired charging compared to a maximum of 25 watt on the S21 Ultra. However with wireless it is 15 watt on both.
That being said I am happy with the S21 Ultra and and as I only got that in the summer would not upgrade right now and the device has still been impressive for me.
Best to read a few reviews , one here https://www.techradar.com/uk/news/samsung-galaxy-s22-ultra-vs-samsung-galaxy-s21-ultra and look out for hands on videos .
I do not think it is practical for everyone to buy 2 Devices.
I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

I think if I were going to buy a new phone... and choose between the two of them, then the s22 Ultra would be my pick. Some key improvements in some areas such as camera, processing and heat management look very good with the S22U. That is unless you can pick up a fantastic discounted deal on the S21U...
I already have the S21U with the top end model of 512GB storage and 16GB RAM... and owned it for a year. I really like the phone, and the improvements between the S21U and S22U are not big enough for me to now trade up and buy the new S22.
I think it is a personal choice that only you can decide upon. Some Samsung owners prefer the Note style with squared corners and S-Pen Silo... and others prefer the rounded corners of the S Series.
The S21U started with a few bugs last year... overheating...software instability... which typically all phones have a few bugs upon release. However, over the year it has become better and better. Just be aware that often with early pre-ordered phones that you have to suffer some instability and bug issues during the first few months before there have been a couple of monthly updates sent out.
It always amazes me how many people complain constantly about a brand new phone upon release day... that is the price the user pays for having the newest tech... it takes some time to stabilise. This is not unique to Samsung... you just have to see the issues that the Pixel6 has just been reported in the past few months to see that this is a common trend.
My S21U phone is now very stable... and a great phone. I enjoy it everyday... from video streaming, camera quality, and occasionally XBOX ultimate games. It will be at least another year before I consider an upgrade... perhaps the S23U might be my next !
Thanks
