PROBLEM RESOLUTION:
It's not a carrier problem. I changed to T-mobile from AT&T and the problem followed. It's not a sim card issue because i went through 4 esims and 2 physical sims. Samsung has told me repeatedly that it's not a phone issue, when it obviously is. They were adamant that it was a carrier issue and would not even listen to me explain what was happening.
Yesterday, after 2 months of frustration. I decided to try a factory reset and that seems to have fixed it (for now at least). So here's what you need to do:
Backup your phone first!!! Go in to the bootloader (hold the power button and down volume button until the screen turns black. While still holding the power button, slide your other finger from the down volume to the up volume. After a few seconds the Samsung logo will appear. Release all the buttons and the bootloader menu will pop up. Wipe the cache, do a factory reset, and reboot it. Do a restore and you're done. My phone wouldn't connect at all, would show me connected to other networks (like sprint or ATT) or if it did connect to T-Mobile, it wouldn't stay connected for very long and I could only make emergency calls. After doing the factory reset, its been connecting and staying connected. I can now make and receive calls and texts without issue.
Hope this helps

@Icemon010: Do you have another compatible device that you can try your SIM card in, as this will help to determine if the issue is stemming from your S22, or your network?
To troubleshoot the issue, please swipe up from your Home screen and head to Settings > Software update > Download and install, and check for any available updates for your S22. Now, head to Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Access point names, and check to make sure that your network plan is registered here. If it isn't, tap the 3 dots in the top right > Reset to default, to see if this helps. Tap the Back button > Network operators > Select automatically, and make sure that this is toggled on.
If the problem persists, power off your phone, remove the SIM card and give the gold contacts a rub with a dry, microfibre cloth, then re-insert it and power the device back on. When the phone has finished booting, check the top left corner of the lock screen, where your network details should be visible.
To further troubleshoot the issue, please head to Settings > Connections > SIM manager, and make sure that your SIM is recognised, and toggled on. Also, you may wish to head to Settings > General management > Reset > Reset mobile network settings > Reset settings.

I have an s23 that I can put the sim in and it works fine. I have the sim in my s22 ultra at the moment. It's been working fine all morning until a few minutes ago. Now my s22 is doing the "not connected to a network" thing again.

@Anonymous User: Have you reached out to your network to enquire about any known issues with your account, or the service in your area? For instance, is the problem persistent in all locations?
