I received my Galaxy S22 Ultra 512GB, Exynos version, over a week before official release date. As I was using the phone I discovered several bugs with my unit, screen blackouts, occasionaly freezes, conversations loosing sound, phon not reachable over GSM network even if my signals was good. I decided to wait until official release date to see if new software would be released. On the 25th Samsung released new firmware for my phone, and I did a complet factory reset after new firmware was installed. I am now on firmware S908BXXU1AVBF and fresh phone setup.

My screen problems seems to be gone, but GSM network issues are still there. Several times I have been made aware of that my phone can not be reached by callers, even if phone is showing signals. Solution, reboot. Turning on and off flightmode did not help. Also I am experiencing sound dropouts during calls, call is not droped but sound oth ways are lost, duration 10 - 15 seconds. Also when making a call the phone uses much longer time to set up the call than other phones I have had. Calling my self from other phones give simular results, setting up phone calles to my Galaxy S22 Ultra take much longer then calling others.

Have been in contact with Samsung support, but there is no help to get there. Try this, try that, over and over again. I am starting to loose my patients now, and its impossible for me to have a phone I dont know if I can be reached at, and when I manage to set up a call, sound is lost several times during the call.

When I FIRST added my SIM, it came up... Simcard swapped

I turned off
Removed card
Reinserted
Replaced tray
Restarted phone

No problems.

S22 ultra, 256, bought direct in-store, but old SIM from contract .... O2 contract SIM.

No other issues.

I also did the 3 updates that came same day.

Restarted phone after updating apps also.
.....
If I helped or solved your problem, please like or tick solved.

Have been using phones since 1993, and am self taught.

I offer advice for free, cos I think it'll help, if it doesn't, explain why, I might learn something new too.

Current phone Galaxy S22 Ultra
Previous phones: most S series, Note 2, Samsung Alpha, iPhone 3gs, far too many Nokia's!

The german repair center w-support.com said they have tested it with different sim-cards and they have NOT see any error with calling. They also have the S22U NOT replaced. They think my sim card is broken. But I had the calling errors also with an other O2 sim card. But I will exchange the sim card and try it.

And a replacement SIM Card from O2 will cost me 29,99€ - nice service. Thank you O2 and Samsung.

@michaelxy Probably it’s not your SIM card, but try it in another phone. If it works in another phone it’s not the card. This IS a problem of Galaxy S22 series, but it only show up with some providers, and probably not everywhere. Certain conditions will have to be in place for the problem to show it self, which is also why some users claim their phones don’t have the problems. Exactly what you experienced with the service centre made me return two Galaxy S22 Ultra, and I will never buy another S22 series phone as I think this is hardware related. Probably I will never buy another Samsung phone, just because of the way they treat users that meets the criteria to experience the problems. It’s well documented, but replacing all S22 units will be very costly for Samsung, and they prefer to keep the knowledge of the faulty (incompatible) hardware hidden.

Yes - my sim-card works in my Note9 since years without a problem. But its the repair service - master oft knowledge... If the error exists with the new sim, i will send it to repair a second time. According german law, they have 2 attempts to repair - after that the purchase contract can be annulled.

Our family has 3 Tablets and 3 Smartphones from Samsung and all are working very good.

But the S22U is a !"§$%&/()

I also think its a hardware problem. Samsung has enought money to make a recall. If this problem will not resolved, no other device from samsung will ever be bought by my family. NEVER.

It seems to be same problem affecting pixel 6 series from a lot of months now. They use an exynos modem.

Are s22 series and pixel 6 using same exynos modem?

I am OLD, my first cellphone was a Motorola, 1988, was a brick and the battery was a separated brick, and heavy.....and worked! that time if you want to take a Pic we had polaroid's, LOL

I have Samsung for the past 15 or more years, two prior the S models and S4 to now and, I still have my S4 working, same battery!!!! Back in the days they used to build it right and with quality components, not today.

I have replaced my SIM card 3 times, and configuration is top....I am 99.9% sure it is the cellphone, and it is hardware problem, not software. I will wait a few months before sending to Samsung because if I do now, chances are that I will get another lemon, and a refurbished lemon.

in U.S. , major carries deleted the 3G 3 months ago, and by the end of 2022, no more 3G anywhere here....sad thing is, the d*******s take of 3G without improving 4G, and the so called REAL 5G only in a very few downtown major cities area, also they do have another fake 5G that is nothing but a better 4G.

Guys I've installed Samsung Bandwidth Selection tool and so far it's a great improvement. Managed to use CellMapper to find the bands that are being used in my area at my office and using Samsung Bandwidth Selection allows me to force the phone to use a specific lte band that has better signal.

CellMapper.net

My theory is that the modems used in s22 and Samsung series phones for that matter have issues finding the most stable signal. If set to lte/3g it will constantly prioritise a poor 4g signal over a stable 3g signal. And on top of that it is using the wrong lte bands.

Tested my sim in another phone and much better service/reception
