Keeping emails on the server

Hi

I recently added another email to the email app. The old email (which I can still access) didn't delete emails from the server, so I could still pick them up on my tablet. The new account, however, deletes emails from the server.

I've looked at Settings - and the menus for the old and the new accounts differ which is a bit confusing, but there doesn't seem to be anything there.

I've also tried to find something in Outlook - just in case! - but no joy.

Obviously, I've sorted this before so there must be away but presumably my brain has got filled with other stuff.

Has anybody got any (repeatable!) suggestions.

Thanks.

Hi,
Try Below

Open Outlook.

Click the File tab > Account settings > Account settings.

Highlight your current POP3 account and click Change. ...

Choose More settings and click Advanced.

You should see a check box titled: Leave a copy of messages on the server.

Regular isp email allow multiple protocols

Imap sync with mail server, you delete from mail app it deletes the item on mail server.

Pop3 downloads emails but if you don't tell it to keep copy on the server then it's deleted after download

If you using something like Outlook.com or 365 then you probably connecting via smtp, which also mirrors the mailbox but has push notification too

It's down to who you have and receive your emails from. I'm with Virgin Media who have their own servers and what functions they provide you with with regard to saving and deleting your emails.

Hi - thanks.

I'm using IMAP/STMP (that was recommendation from someone at work, so whole new question) rather than POP3.

When I get to 'Change', I'm not offered 'More settings' (for either of the accounts).

Settings for both accounts are the same in Outlook.

Maybe I'll try another account as POP3 - I am getting desperate.

Thanks, again .

Ah. This may have led me in the right direction. I need to check this out, but I think the old account may be POP3 but that may not be allowed for the new one - something someone mentioned IRL - so it has been set up as IMAP by default. If so, that it a right royal pain. As is lots of technology.

Hi - I've got one account that does and one account that doesn't. I thin k BT may have changed protocols so new accounts can be set up in that way.

It is a real pain.
