Issue with recognizing an external mic

I am using a newfantasia cable with inline mic to connect my headphones to an FiiO bluetooth receiver. The mic works with my macbook, but not with my galaxy S22. With the phone, it continues to use the built in microphone and I can't see a way to address it.
