I would firstly try to install a GPS toolbox application from Google play to see what the 'raw data' is showing for your navigation.
I can recommend GPS status as an app that works pretty well.
See how well the GPS picks up signals, although my suspicions is this will work fine and the issue is with your allowing data between apps.
From this GPS status you can also delete the a-gps data stored in the phone and allow it to 'cold start'.
See if this gives any more insight into why your navigation is not working as well as it should.
If GPS status shows good data and no reason for navigation issues then I would next look at the apps settings for waze, and particularly for the passing of data.

I had the same issue. complete backup and factory reset and restore worked for me. nothing else i tried would work

I guess the best way is to try the same wirh VPN off and see if the service is resumed correctly.

Glad this is a recent thread - having the same issue. Did the toolbox thing - not getting GPS data. Cleared the A-GPS - nada called my wife (also a GPS expert) - she said 13 minutes to get location.

Of course GNSS issues can be from a multitude of things.
13 minutes for a 'first fix' is a long time. It shouldn't be more than a minute or two max... even without network assistance.
I assume you are in an open sky environment and not sitting indoors.
I guess if your wife is a GPS expert then she should be able to give some guidance.
I am not sure what 'nada' means. Does this mean i doesnt see any signals ? Does it mean it didnt make any difference ? Does it mean than it didnt make a fix for 13 minutes.
Giving guidance over a forum chat without much data to work with is hard 😉
What does your azimuth signal graph look like ? Are you getting GPS / Galileo / glonass / Beidou signals ?
Finally I dont even know what phone you are using.
Have you tried powering off and on your device to see if it clears ? Have you got your mobile data allowed to the GPS and mapping apps ?
There is so many things that could cause issues with positioning.
A screenshot like that i have added below would be a start.

Just a quick follow up - we’re near a research facility. Coworkers of mine said GPS does weird things here. It’s possible we’re getting interference. Once I got moving around - all good
