Nor entirely sure what you are asking
If you're asking if the S22 Ultra has a present for 2X Zoom
Answer is yes as in the photo Screenshot_20221007_002322_Camera.jpg

Do you mean as in photo quality and clarity @Adi0

All phone's do as zoom is increased I believe.

Daily Driver > Samsung Galaxy s²⁵ Ultra 512Gb ~ Titanium Black.

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.

If you mean like zoom by cropping the frame in the centre of the frame without resampling pixels then no.

Samsung Ultra phones can shoot in the full 108MP from the main camera (you need to choose the 3.4 108MP for that and you should hopefully be able to crop manually and still retain clarity.

Or use the 3x optical zoom which will have the detail shot.

They don't do pixel binning like the Apple .

Maybe come with an update.

What apple does is a bit different. It uses the central portion of the largest sensor. Then using pixel binning fills the frame giving you an equivalent 48mm focal length. A conventional camera will use optical magnification which will give you a more natural looking field of view and depth.

Whilst it is obvious this is not a competitor to that, it is a reminder this is a software trick.

The Sony Xperia pro-i uses a type 1 sensor and only the 12 mp centrally portion of the 20 mp. Alas it is the larger photosites and no binning. Then there is a xiaomi 12s ultra with a similar sensor and no cropping. It is to do with physical advantages over AI software tricks.

In conclusion, a telephoto or zoom lens will always give better results. Gigapixel Ai is a good example of upscaling however the compute power required and data required to produce usable results are not yet practical on the mobile platform as yet.

I think the hp3 sensor from Samsung is capable of tetrabinning which will hive you 50mp combined results with larger pixels yielding better images with less compression. That may be an alternative to Apples 48 megapixel solution. However as a DNG or lossless jpg/heif storage is always going to be an obstacle. Compression will destroy any benefit to large megapixel count especially in low light conditions.

Actually I have a slight edit. In x2 mode, it gives you 12 megapixels without pixel binning or resampling. However there is some sort of computation here used to fill the frame. It's a bit like micro 4/3 using a crop then zooming to fill the frame. Ideally you want to use the best resolution and raw file formats to crop later. Especially if it is for the max quality.

Technically any pixel binning results in an effective lower resolution.

So it does it automatically?

Well you know the 48 mp sensor. It uses the central 12 megapixels of it, so an on sensor crop. The cropping effectively halves the field of view and equates to a 48mm equivalent length. It's just using the central portion of photosites to record the image.

This is how Aps-c mode works on full frame cameras. So basically Apple have took a genuine attempt of improving camera images but still relies of compute to smooth things over. So Apple basically automatically crops to save 12 mp images rather 48 mp which are huge as raw files. About 70mb each.
