[Bug] Playback notifications reset when opening music player

Hi Samsung,

Hopefully the One UI team reads these. I don't know how else to leave feedback or raise feature requests.

Overall, I like the new One UI 7 update. I feel like the menus are a lot cleaner.

I find that the music controls seem quite buggy, and are lacking some advanced options that would really help.

There is no option to hide the music notification in the notification bar. I know that I'm playing music, I don't want a distracting UI element to constantly scroll to show me the song name when I'm using other apps.

Disabling the playback notifications category removes this, but also removes the larger music playback widget when opening the notifications tray. That widget is useful for controlling music without opening the app.

Further, disabling playback notifications works, until opening the music app again. This seems like a bug.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Play music and minimise the music app to have the playback notification show

2. Disable playback notifications under Settings - Notifications - App Notifications - (Music player) - Notification Categories - Playback. This should remove the playback notification.

3. Open the music player and minimise it again. The playback notification returns.

This also happens if disabling notifications entirely for the music player.

I hope this will be fixed soon!

Affects both Samsung S22 and S24.

If needed I can share a video showing this.

Cheers!

Dave

Personally,  I like live notification of music player in status bar. Just tap on that live notification and the widget will open, without the need to lower the entire notification panel, I think it's better then on OneUI 6.1

But, if the music player in the status bar really bothers you, there is a possibility that you still have access to the widget without the live notification.  So, you turn off the live notification for the music player in the Now bar. When you want to check your player just pull down Quick Panel,  as you can see on my screenshot,  music widget is on top, without live notification. Of course, the condition is that you have separate Notification and Quick panel.

Hi Sonora,

Thanks for the detailed reply! I tested your option, and it works as described. That option really limits interactivity when playing music, as the music player is removed from the lock screen too.

What I really want is to remove the live notification from the status bar, while keeping the live player in the full notifications menu and lock screen.

I'm hoping Samsung adds more options to notification and status bar management.

Well, you can't have a lock screen and do something on your phone at the same time. You wrote that you're annoyed by live notifications in the status bar, and now you mention the lock screen. There are also routines if it's too much trouble for you to turn on the music player again  in the Now bar after you finished what you are doing.

Many people like live music player in status bar, especially S25 series users.  At first they didn't have a player in the status bar, so they made a fuss here about why the S24 has it and they don't, so Samsung gave them live player.

And that's not a bug at all, but a feature. It works as intended.

Hey Sonora,

Yes, you're quite right. I probably should have opened two threads:

- a bug when disabling playback notifications, they immediately show again after opening and minimizing the music player

- feature request to have more granular management of music player controls in different places (status bar, notifications window, lock screen)

Unless I'm missing any deeply hidden options, I think this is just missing functionality. My idea behind posting was to raise awareness and hopefully have this functionality added in future.
