I recently moved to Japan and tried to move to a new carrier (i.e. Japan SIM).  The APN info doesn't match up so I can't get it work.  Does the S22 in Canada work in Japan?  Is there a carrier that it works with?  Maybe it's the carrier, UQ Mobile, that it doesn't support?

What about an eSIM? It might be worth investigating if that would work. I doubt you'll have much joy though but it would be worth contacting Samsung either in an Experience store in Japan or via the Members app support section (the two speech bubble icon on the bottom of the app when you open it)

@Leo104: Samsung phones come with a region lock, however this can be removed by making a 5-10 minute cumulative call to a local number inside the region of origin (Canada), using a SIM from a carrier in that region. If you have performed the above steps, then it may be the case that your Galaxy S22 is still locked to your Canadian network, therefore I recommend reaching out to them directly to request an unlock code.

There's no support for 5G, 4G is only compatible with 50% of the frequencies used in Japan. See https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker/JP/samsung-galaxy-s22

5G phones are backwards compatible, I have mine set to 4G to stop it wasting power when I'm at home

I just finished contacting my carrier in Canada but since I bought the phone via Samsung.ca there was no region lock.  So I contacted Samsung and was given this info, the bandwidths and frequencies of the S22:

4G FDD LTE B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B12(700), B13(700), B18(800), B19(800), B20(800), B25(1900), B29(700), B30(2300), B66(AWS-3), B71(600) 4G TDD LTE B38(2600), B39(1900), B40(2300), B41(2500), B46(5200)

I found out that the carrier in Japan, UQ mobile works in B1 and B18 should Samsung said it should work.  I'll try contacting UQ mobile again to see if they can figure out that configuration.  Thanks everyone for the feedback.

While doing more research, "On the other hand, if you bring the US or Canadian phones to Japan, most smartphones sold recently in North America are compatible with Band 1 2100MHz LTE because it is the most dominant LTE frequencies used in Asia and Europe. So, they can be used in Japan for LTE connection."

And I had success!  Not really sure what I did different but just by brute force trying different things, it worked.  Thanks again, everyone.
