Original Photos Disappear After Saving an Edited Version

I accepted an update to my phone yesterday, and now when I edit any photos, the original disappears. It's not even in the trash. It's just gone. It never did this before. Indeed, I could edit a photo or crop it etc... a hundred times and save it and it would never eliminate the previous version of the photo. Is there a setting somewhere that needs to be reset??

This is actually pretty devastating to my work flow.  I edit photos multiple times per day, often making many separate edits to the same original picture.  Not only is it inconvenient to have to tap through a sub-menu and select ”save a copy” every time, but if I happen to forget (which after thousands of hours of muscle memory, I will) then I could lose the original.  If I realize in time then I can use the revert feature, but in that case I'll lose the edit.  It's a really bad change.

On top of that what's really driving me crazy is that when you ”save as copy”, the copy will be assigned either the timestamp of the original OR the current time AT RANDOM.  This means my edits will not be grouped together, but scattered around my gallery/file system in chaos which makes my work very difficult.

Does anyone know of any way to uninstall the gallery app in order to install an older version?  This is honestly quite upsetting.

Agreed and if like to do the same. I use mine for work as well and sometimes make several copies, and now I have to hunt all over to find original, if I didn't loose it 😑

A proper way to do the same thing would be a toggle option. How hard would that be really? Offer the OPTION to those who want it. Don't force the rest of us... seriously

I hate this soooo much. This update has been the worst ever. That make be great for someone but not for me. I want to save as a copy. Now I keep accidentally saving over the original... Yes I know I can revert back easily but I wanted a copy. Why didn't yall make this an option? I can see all these people who were apart of the beta program telling y'all how awful this was as well as the stupid folder grid change and y'all proceeded to do it anyways. Do you even listen to the voices of your beta testers? It doesn't appear so... Cause if you did then these never would of made it to the actual update. Seriously, start listening to your testers and stop giving us these absolute awful updates. Thanks, that would be greatly appreciated!!!

Haha! I never realised you could use the three dots to save a copy of the original, that's extremely handy!!! I too would prefer it to go back to the old way. You got my backing and I got your back in this argument!

And then you lose changes if you hit revert to get the original as well. Then you have to spend all the te and effort re-editing

Once i edit..it seems to zoom in (shrink) the original and then delete the original... why ?

Omg it is really really annoying ! Why would anyone want to get rid of how it was? It's a hassle to have to remember to press the dots and save a copy! I really do not like it at all!
