Doing this as early as possible would be beneficial.
You shouldn't have to be troubleshooting a phone so new into owning it.
It should obviously just be a process of insering a valid sim card and starting the set up process.
I assume it's unlocked to all networks to be able to accept your network sim card ? Check the small print if you can.
In the UK we have a paid for service called https://www.checkmend.com/uk/ which can help to determine the status of a phone.
