Hello guys. I was just wondering what settings everyone has their video camera on? I was using 8k but the video is slow and seems a bit blurry in comparison to some of the other settings.

Thanks in advance 🍻

I usually run 1080p 30fps for normal things. 1080p for storage, 30fps for better low light. Important events usually get 4k 60fps. 8k I'd say is more of a party trick if you're not a professional.

Oh and hdr on

No real reason to use 8k unless you have a supported screen to actually view it natively on.

I usually always use 4k 60FPS. Space is no issue, so I think it's best to capture the highest quality for the moment.

On a kinda basic level, hdr records brightness.

A normal video might record the levels of red, green and blue per pixel, hdr adds brightness information. If you play a hdr video on a hdr display, the bright parts will be physically brighter and the dark bits physically darker. This also stops bright parts of the image turning pure white or pure black, it allows more detail to be displayed. Hopefully thats a decent explanation of the basics, the technical bits I know better.

The technical bits. By default, samsung hdr saves hdr data in a kinda spare area of the file. If a non hdr device tries to play it, it plays as a normal video. If a hdr device tries to play it, it will notice the extra data and show a hdr image. It's decent quality and backwards compatible with normal devices. Should be safe to leave on.

There is also a kinda hidden option to make it use the hdr10 format. This is a more fancy way of storing hdr data that saves even more image data, allowing a higher quality hdr image. Though if you try to play this video on a normal non hdr device, it might fail to play or have issues. So it looks better but doesn't work on all devices.

Kinda fun fact, if you have/enable "super hdr" in advanced settings, pictures you take will be displayed in hdr if you view them with the gallery app. All pictures you take have hdr automatically enabled using the first technical method I mentioned, the compatible one.

Kinda final note, the majority of modern phones support hdr, any Samsung s series from the past 10 years do

Thank you for your information. I'll have a mess around and check it all out. I've had the phone (note20 ultra) for about a year, and I've never really checked it out. Sorry to be a pain, but how about photo settings?

12mp is normally enough. Iphones take 12mp photos, most apps and websites compress them to be even less. Higher mp values do capture more detail and let you zoom in after the image has been taken. Maybe take special occasion pictures at a higher resolution? They do take up more storage. Depending on your device, it might take a second or two to take higher mp photos, so try not to take pics of moving things in high mp if your device needs some time to capture them

There are other photo related settings but I don't know which your phone will have as my phone is quite different to your phone. The main important setting is the mp value, the others are just processing and extra features.

Oh and in advanced picture settings, make sure high efficiency pictures is enabled. The same setting is in advanced video options. Reduces file size for the same quality. Some things might not support it but you can convert if needed. By now, the majority of things support it, a few years ago it was rather new and things like discord didn't support sending them yet

My personal recommended for photos:
In lower light condition definitely Expert Raw.
My most used normal camera setup is 50mp

Thank you for your comment as I'd never used it until you said 😊. The camera quality is great in wide setting but when I click ultra wide it goes to a blue tint, is this to do with the speed, iso, wb and all the rest of what pops up at the bottom of the screen???
