Touch screen becomes unresponsive, but S pen work

I recently dropped my phone, I thought maybe the damage wouldn't be bad since it was dropped on carpet, but there is a small bit of the screen near the bottom left corner that has turned black. Moreover, the screen now sometimes stops responding to touch. Sometimes it works perfectly fine, but other times does not register what I am doing. Swiping down from the notification bar never works now, and very rarely it clicks things I didn't touch However, the S pen works perfectly fine.

I wonder whether this is some issue I can just troubleshoot myself or will I have to get the screen replaced?

Backup your phone with smart switch. In case things fully break, backup while you still have the option to using the spen

Hi and welcome to the community, have you tried running a diagnostic test from within the members app? It might show up as a hardware fault possibly? Worth a try, click support at the bottom right corner and you should see it at the top.

I believe the S Pen uses a layer called the digitizer under the screen so that panel is probably undamaged but the layer for touch with your fingers is probably what is broken. It will get worse and worse over time so I would get it repaired ASAP, I hope this helps 🙏
