I know that to fit the current trend most smartphones are averaging at 6.6 to 6.7 inches, but will there ever be smaller midrange phones again? Missed the times where there was always an option for users...
Want a smaller phone, get the A3X series (A30 to A33 was locked at 6.4). Want the big one get the A7X series which has been long discontinued.
Not to mention phones are also getting heavier along with the increasing size.

@WakakaWaffle I think generally nowadays there are demands to fit in more components and you need space for more powerful Batteries. Like it or not there is just not the same demand for smaller Devices with customers spending a lot time on their Smart Devices. so there are few compact Devices and it will be a challenge. A review of some compact devices here https://www.androidcentral.com/best-small-android-phone
Whilst SD cards still have a fan base nowadays I think they are generally outmoded, not the fastest technology and prone to errors. The flagships do offer more internal storage (wiythout offers at a premium mind you) and as has been mentioned alternatives such as flash drives/local storage in addition to the cloud.

Samsung and the others will follow market trend and these phone's are used nowadays for media consumption ,so a decent enough sized display is really needed in my personal opinion.
Who knows what the future will bring 🤔 @WakakaWaffle

I still use SD card*

I have a usb c hard drive tbh so its not that big of a deal. However if the trend continues i might have to get the base S series despite not wanting to spend that much on a phone😅
Hope they dont axe that one too
