Why won't the icon go away even when I don't have any messages to listen to?

Go to Settings > Apps > Show System Apps > Phone Services then clear data and cache and it'll dissappear

Hi sorry got so far then couldn't find phone services. Not very technically minded I'm afraid. If I clear data and cache what else would that delete

If you clear the phone services data and cache it won't clear anything other than the notification memory which you don't see anyway, but will remove the voicemail icon that's lingering
