Can I add my sons phone to samsung smart things then use the "find my device" to see his phones location ?

He has scanned qr code & now comes up on "family" but doesn't show up on find devices

If you're doing it with smart things and the house/family. He might need to open the tracking menu for his phone on his phone, then tick share this device's location.

I'd recommend using the find app instead as that allows you to track people more than track devices part of a family. Both work the same way, just different setup

Yes on the Find Device app > People. Try a few times, maybe it needs time to connect.

Have you tried to connect via sharing a link with your son? You can copy the link and send it to him via message or social media messenger.

Yes you can.

Download Samsung Find on his mobile and then add your self.

I have basically done this for my whole family ( with permission from them) so we can see each other. 😊

You can do similar on Google maps as well.
