I think I figured it out so far it seems to stop the annoying popup to switch...go to settings, security and privacy, permissions manager, scroll down to SMS, remove Google and Google play store, ignore the warning it will not affect the message app or anything else.

I had the same thing happen, and going into settings and changing the default messaging app fixed it. Just had to choose the one I actually wanted to use.

I agree.I hate google and i'm only finding out after getting my new phone a few days ago. I initially switched over back to Samsung messages as it is still available in the Samsung store. However, the reason that I even checked about this update is because I was not able to receive group messages from some of my co-workers who have iPhones. And when I tried to figure out a solution, it really had to do with a setting, (RCS Chat) that has been locked to force people to use Google messages. You may straight up be not receiving certain text messages, so just be careful. I had to switch because I need those text messages while I'm working. I may have to reconsider if Samsung is gonna be my next choice when it's time to upgrade.
