I've the Samsung A34 5G

But this message popped up I'm just wondering if it's ok to install or is it a scam?

I'm only asking because you do have to be careful these days
I'm using Google messages but not seen anything like this before

Edited to say that the message appeared as a drop down from the top of the screen
There is nothing in Google play store

My son's A34 has the app as per my screenshot, if you don't, I'm actually inclined to think this might be legit - where does it take you if you click install

@Frazzlbiker: That's an interesting one. Android System SafetyCore is a Google application, and the notification does appear to be from the Google Messages app. When looking it up, I got the impression that it was already integrated into the Messages app, so I'm not too sure what to make of this. You may wish to to head to the Google Play Store and download the app directly from here, just for peace of mind.

@Frazzlbiker: I have looked into this further, and there is a 'Sensitive content warnings' setting in Google Messages settings > Protection and safety > Manage sensitive content warnings, and this is toggled off by default. Have you recently enabled this setting?

It's legit. It was supposed to auto download to your phone months ago on an update. That popup means somehow it didn't install for you automatically, so it's asking you to install it.

It should take you to the play store to download it. As long as it doesn't download some sketch apk, it's fine

As for what it does, as of right now it's how "sensitive content filtering" works. When enabled, your phone scans images you are sent via text (on device, totally private), if it detects nsfw or adult content, it hides it with a warning. It also warns if you are about to send that content. So it stops kids or adults seeing sexual content or sending it without warning you first.

It's off by default even if you install it, but that's what it does if fully enabled
