The Samsung "Phone" app (dialler) has an issue. During a call the phone screen goes black which hides the entire screen dialling buttons.
Pressing volume up or down on the sidekeys doesn't bring the screen back. Even tapping the screen doesn't bring the screen back. Instead I have to frantically multitap the screen to get it back.
This is very annoying, especially while listening to voicemails as I have to press buttons on the dialler to go to the next messages or delete a message. While trying to get the screen back today by tapping frantically. I deleted an important voicemail message!
My screen timeout is 2 minutes. Adaptive brightness is switched on. But even with adaptive brightness switched on the screen shouldn't go completely black. Please help.

This is due to the camera's proximity sensors. If it senses you are close, the screen turns off to prevent accidental touches. Ensure the phone is uncovered.

Go to Samsung Members > Diagnostics and run the sensor tests.

Go to Settings > Display > Accidental touch protection and turn it off.

You may also try turning on Always On Display.

Just press the power to bring the screen back on.

Hello 👋 @Ihaveaquery

This is what a Google Search Ai overview says.

AI Overview

This message means your phone's screen is turning off because the proximity sensor (near the camera) detects you are holding it close, which is a feature to prevent accidental touches while the phone is in your pocket; to fix this, make sure your phone is uncovered and you can also try disabling "Accidental touch protection" in your settings.

Thanks @BandOfBrothers this is happening even when I have the phone on a phone stand. It doesn't happen with Google dialler though. But I prefer the Samsung dialler. Phone diagnostic says everything is ok

@Moiramon I use the power button to end calls. So it wouldn't work

Hey there @Ihaveaquery

Its so annoying when something does not work as it should 🙄

Like you I prefer the Samsung option too.

I assume the diagnostic tool found in the Samsung Members App does not highlight anything.

Maybe Samsung themselves can provide support too either by phone call or via feedback via the Samsung Members App.

@BandOfBrothers yes it's super annoying. I noticed in at the link below they recommend "turning off tap to wake" if the phone screen doesn't work during or after calls. I also noticed there is no "proximity sensor" option in my screenshot of my A54 diagnostic screen— unlike the screenshots they provided of their diagnostics screen.

I'll include the screenshots and the link below. I have already sent feedback to Samsung, thanks for your suggestion and effort to help. When I turned off the tap to wake it seemed to help. I'll see how it goes. I wondered how I might wake the phone a bit more easily without the tap to wake feature. So, I have "lift to wake" turned on. However, it doesn't do anything! I think there's an issue with the A54 proximity setup. I believe it uses a "virtual proximity sensor" inserted of an actual one.
