On a standard android and Samsung phone keypad how do you type letters into the phone when you are talking to an automated call eg putting in a tracking number with letters and numbers. How do you change from numbers to letters. Thank you

You cannot switch to letters from numbers, the usual way to do this is to hit the key the required number of times.
For example,
Number 2 is ABC so if you wanted the letter B you would press 2, twice.

Yes that is how I got letters on my first phone but it does not seem to work on a Samsung android now. This is hardly progress

Also why on earth do they go to the trouble of putting letters below every number on the keypad
