My A40 suddenly wont charge. I've put my SIM and SD card into a spare phone but have lost photos and text messages.  Is there any way to get them back? I've tried Samsung cloud but nothing in there

Hi @LauraNic  Does  there not appear to be any apparent issue with the charger and is it a Samsung or compatible charger, does it work on the spare phone?   if not will likely need another charger or you could try wireless one. Just check that there is no debris or water in the charging port and ensure it is clean. see if Diagnostics pinpoints any errors, go to Samsung Members-Support-Phone Diagnostics.   If all fine there an idea to try a Soft Reset , hold the Power Button and volume Down Button simultaneously for around 10 seconds until it Reboots before trying again.   You could also try Safe Mode where the phone runs without 3rd party apps to determine if some apps could be causing a problem, would be the case if you can charge in Safe Mode.  see here for more details https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-to-start-my-galaxy-device-in-safe-mode/

With regard to the lost messages I take you do not have a Backup of these to restore from Samsung cloud,  there is option to restore these from Recycle Bin in 30 day period via Messages- Menu (3 dots)- Recycle Bin on many devices  but not all of the A series.

Samsung cloud no longer backs up photos so you would need to have a back up on another service such as One Drive, Dropbox or local storage.   Do you have nothing in My Files or Google photos on the internal storage (if you are able to get it charged).

if all ese fails you may need to visit a Samsung Experience store.

Check your SD Card to see if your photo's backed up into there.

Samsung now use Onedrive as an option to back up photo's not Samsung Cloud but a person does need to set that up.

Personally I use Dropbox.

Look in the phone's charge port to check for any build up of lint  /  debris using a torch which can affect charging.

Try another charging option.

If you haven't used any back up solutions then I would suggest to have the phone looked at via a Samsung Service Centre who hopefully can repair it.

The only caveat is that they would most probably perform a factory reset which would invariably wipe the phone.

If I can be of any further help then please don't hesitate. Take care.  😎
