I accidentally left my phone on for around 3 hours when I fell asleep. When I woke up, it was very hot.

I checked the temperature in the CPU-Z app and it was at most at 45°-46° on one thermal sensor and around 40-41°C on battery. I left the phone to cool on the desk and it took around 10 good minutes for it to cool down.

I haven't noticed any screen burn-in, I checked that with Screen Check app, which is displaying basic colors on the whole screen. I took my plastic case off and I didn't notice any battery degradation or swelling yet.

Except for the fact that before this happened, the phone had around 70% battery and now it has 25%. Should I be worried?

Can I charge the battery and keep using the phone like normal or should I take it to the service centre, so the service can fix the overheating and change the battery? If yes, then is something like this covered in warranty?

Model name is Galaxy A34 5G

Have you looked in device care > Battery. Look in the battery stats see if the app you were last on was running and caused the battery drain. Did you wake with the phone under sheets or laid on to cause it to feel hot. Did any over heating warnings show up on the phone?. If the phone is running OK now. And is performing as normal. I wouldn't be to concerned. Just try not to fall asleep with your phone on. You can also go to support within the members app. Diagnostic checks. Make sure no faults show.

I left the phone on the drawer near my bed. Before I fell asleep, I remember I was waiting for a message from my family member and then after that, the rest of this happened. I disabled screen timeout, because I like to control the timeout on my own and now I see that wasn't a good idea... I took a look into the battery section and it seems like the app that have caused all the battery drainage in the background, seemed to be the ChatGPT app. As of writing this, I have uninstalled it, but why did it happen? I haven't had any issues with ChatGPT app in the past. Also, I haven't seen any overheating warnings at all. I will look into if other users had any issues with the said app. Thanks for your response

There are no faults either in the diagnostic checks. I guess, it's going to be fine to use then (after I deleted that app), but I will be observing the phone's condition over the next few weeks just to make sure

With no screen time out and the app left open and running. This is most likely why the phone felt hot and the cause of battery drain. I would have a time set for screen time out. And close apps off before you put your phone down.

I set the screen timeout to 5 minutes. I hope it will be enough, because I find 2 minutes timeout to be too quick for me

Do you have the option to keep screen on while viewing? You may also find this handy. This should also be in screen time out.1724054423486.jpg

Oh, you're right. My phone supports this feature. I have no idea, how I didn't notice it earlier. It might have been overlooked by me, I suppose. I will try that out, thank you for helping me
