How do I set up a used Galaxy A6 for me as its new owner?

Just acquired an old A6 from a friend, it's still got all his old contact details and accounts and so on.  What's the best way to wipe his stuff and import my accounts etc?  It recognises my SIM and responds as my phone number.  My old phone was a Sony xperia M2, if that's at all relevant.

I would just factory reset then start from Fresh as a new phone

That was my first thought on the matter, I must admit.

Looks like I need the old owner's Samsung login details to do a reset...

I was hoping you wouldn't need the codes to reset

As mentioned @bofh1961 the best route is to factory reset the phone.

This will need to be done by the owner as they'll have the password for the reset to take effect.

This is a security protocol to help protect the phone and it's contents.

I'd just contact the friend and meet up to factory reset the phone.

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.
